Jeisys Medical (CEO: Kang Dong Hwan, hereinafter Jeisys) has announced that its high-frequency lifting device, DENSITY (pictured), adopted environmentally friendly cooling gases, thus reinforcing its commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management.

According to Jeisys, DENSITY, which has been on sale since June, is the only device in South Korea to use 4th generation HFO  series gases as its cooling gas. When delivering high-frequency currents to deeper layers of the skin, pain, heat, and thermal effects can occur at the treatment site. To protect the skin during procedures, Jeisys adopted environmentally friendly gases to cool the RF tip, maintaining the skin's temperature stably.

Cooling gases are used to absorb and release heat for cooling purposes. They are widely used not only in medical devices but also in air conditioners and refrigerators. Cooling gases are categorized into four generations: 1st generation Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), 2nd generation Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC), 3rd generation Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), and 4th generation Hydrofluoroolefins (HFO). The use of 1st and 2nd generation cooling gases is practically prohibited due to environmental regulations.

The 3rd generation HFC gases, currently the most widely used, are inexpensive and readily available. While they do not deplete the ozone layer, they contribute to global warming, leading to a recent trend of reducing their usage.

Since 2015 in the United States, 2018 in China, and 2023 in South Korea, regulations on HFC refrigerants have been strengthened to reduce their usage. Although the 4th generation HFO series gases are considered environmentally friendly, they are more expensive. Most medical device companies currently prefer the cheaper 3rd generation HFC gases.

However, Jeisys has developed DENSITY based on environmentally friendly gases that are safe for human use and have minimal environmental impact from the early stages of development. Despite numerous trials and errors due to the absence of existing suppliers using environmentally friendly gases, Jeisys was able to sign import and supply contracts with a U.S. HFO series gas supplier after persistent efforts. The supplier had limited experience with 4th generation HFO gases, resulting in many difficulties during the preparatory stages. Nevertheless, after undergoing various tests, the company has achieved stable supply and management of the gases.
